What Does Rhodium Treatment Mean?

Rhodium is a precious metal and a member of the platinum family. Rhodium electroplating is used on jewellery to provide a surface that will resist surface scratches and tarnish. Rhodium treatment gives our jewellery a white, reflective appearance.

What Are the Benefits to Rhodium Treated, Sterling Silver Jewellery?

There are many upsides to rhodium plated jewellery. First, it increases shine, lustre, and durability. Additionally, it will make your jewellery more resistant to surface scratches and less prone to tarnishing too quickly. However, silver will tarnish as this is the nature of silver and how you know that it is in fact genuine. Another popular benefit to rhodium plating is that it makes your jewellery hypoallergenic.

What Does Lab Created or Lab Grown Mean?

If it is stated that a gemstone has been “Lab-Created” it means that the gemstone was grown in a laboratory by replicating the conditions of stones grown naturally in the environment. This means the gemstone is chemically, physically, and optically identical to those mined underground. Simply put, the gemstones are identical except one was mined underground and the other was grown in a laboratory. There are many upsides to gemstones created in a laboratory such as being less expensive, having fewer flaws and most importantly, they are environmentally friendly.

How Do I Care For My Jewellery?

- Avoid Heavy Handwork: We highly recommend removing your ring during gym sessions (especially weightlifting), gardening, or heavy cleaning. Hard metal-on-metal or metal-on-stone impacts are the main reason tiny stones can dislodge.

- The 'Snag' Check: Every few months, you can do a quick check at home. Gently run your finger over the halo or listen closely while giving the ring a tiny shake near your ear. If you ever feel a loose prong or hear a faint clicking, just pop us a message on this WhatsApp line.

- Routine Inspections: Like a car, fine jewelry benefits from a routine service! We always recommend having your ring professionally inspected and cleaned once a year to ensure all the prongs remain tight and secure.

- Skin pH & Sweat: Our skin naturally secretes oils and sweat, which contain acids (like lactic acid and amino acids) and salts (sodium chloride). Everyone’s natural skin pH is slightly different. If a wearer has a more acidic skin profile, their sweat is naturally more corrosive to metals.

- The Chemical Reaction: When highly acidic sweat or skin oils come into contact with the thin layer of gold-plating, it accelerates a chemical reaction that breaks down the gold-plating and oxidizes the base metal underneath (like sterling silver).

- Avoid Moisture: Take the ring off before washing your hands, showering, swimming, or working out. Water and sweat accelerate wear.

- Keep Chemicals Away: Apply lotions, perfumes, and hand sanitizers before putting your rhodium or gold-plated ring on, and let them dry completely.

- Prevent Friction: Store it in a soft pouch or lined jewelry box away from other metal pieces to prevent scratching or denting.

- Gentle Cleaning: Wipe it down gently with a soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid chemically treated polishing cloths, as they can strip the rhodium or gold-plated finish.

How are Gemstones Created in A Laboratory More Environmentally Friendly?

Gemstones created in a laboratory have a significantly less impact on the environment. The mining process is resource-intensive and produces high levels of carbon emissions as opposed to their lab-created counterparts. Lab-created gemstones are created in a secure, environmentally sustainable laboratory where mines have contributed towards deforestation and erosion of our beautiful planet.
